In 2003, when asked about casualties in Iraq, then Secretary of State Donald Rumsfeld said "we don't do body counts on other people." (Fox News transcript 11/2/2003). "Counting Breaths" is in response to this statement, and represent an accounting of souls lost, both U..S. soldiers and Iraqi civilians, in the Iraq/U.S. war between 2003 and 2011.
