A mixed media painting using acrylic paint, layers of matte medium, foam core, plaster. The painting is in response to the migration crisis peaking in 2015 with hundreds of thousands of refugees crossing the Mediterranean Sea from Syria, Afghanistan, and many African countries. I was thinking also of migration throughout history, with people seeking to escape famine, poverty, oppression, war, and religious persecution, or seeking to benefit from the resources of colonialism.
