The painting uses imagery such as cracked soil, rebar, cinder blocks, bullets, charred wood, to create a sense of the destruction left behind by war. 1-in. squares of tally marks represent populations of people, empty squares the absence of people. Inspired by photographs of Aleppo in Syria during the Syrian civil war.
